If you are anywhere between Main Street and the North Brindlee corridor, or out toward Arab City Park, we cover it, along with the rest of Marshall County.
Between the established parts of Arab and the newer subdivisions, we see two different kinds of failure: worn-out frames on one side of town and worn-out hardware on the other.

These are the exterior door repair faults we are called out to most often in Arab. If you recognise one, the underlying cause is usually the second half of the line.
- The door has to be shouldered to latchThe door has dropped, or the frame has moved and the strike no longer lines up.
- Warping visible along the door edgeMoisture imbalance between the interior and exterior faces of the slab.
- The door bottom drags on the thresholdHinge sag or a threshold adjusted too high.
- There is a tide line across the bottom of the doorStanding water at the threshold, which means drainage rather than the door is the real fault.
- Sidelight or transom glass has foggedFailed insulated units in the fixed panels beside the door.
- Fasteners are showing rust streaks down the door faceNon-stainless fixings on an exposed opening, which will keep staining and eventually fail.

Click to Call (205) 619-2895How conditions in Arab affect exterior door repair
Snow and sleet are more common here than almost anywhere else in Alabama, and meltwater refreezing in a sliding door track is a recurring winter problem.
Grit at the threshold grinds the door sweep as the door closes over it, and a worn sweep is the most common reason an otherwise sound exterior door starts letting in air, water and insects.
Ice at the threshold prevents a door from closing fully, and forcing it is what damages the sweep, the threshold and sometimes the door bottom itself.
It is why the same repair done properly in Arab lasts, and the same repair done cheaply does not.
Local factors we account for in Arab: grit and dust and ice and sleet — typical of the Sand Mountain and Lookout Mountain plateau.

- Assess it closed, from insideWith the lights off inside, daylight shows exactly where the seal has failed. That is the fastest diagnosis there is.
- Find where the water goesMost exterior door failures are water failures. We look at the threshold, the sill pan, the drip cap and the ground level outside.
- Correct the geometry before the sealsWeatherstrip cannot seal a door that is not sitting square. Hinges, reveal and threshold come first.
- Fit for the exposureStainless fixings, marine-grade or coated hardware and the correct sweep, depending on how much weather the opening takes.
- Make the lock work without forceThe deadbolt should throw completely with one finger and the door untouched. On the mountain we check weatherstrip condition carefully, because repeated hard freezes make it brittle long before it looks worn.
- Check it under a hoseWhere water has been getting in, we test the repair rather than assuming it worked.
One call gets you an answer. We will tell you what is wrong and what it takes to fix.
Click to Call (205) 619-2895What affects the cost of exterior door repair in Arab
Pricing on exterior door repair depends on what has actually failed, which is why we talk it through before quoting. These are the things that move the number:
- the material of the door: wood, fiberglass or steel
- whether water management details also need correcting
- whether the frame has rot that needs splicing
- security reinforcement and hardware upgrades
- weatherstrip and threshold work versus structural repair
Call and describe what the door is doing. In most cases we can tell you over the phone which of those applies to you before anyone drives out to Arab.

Click to Call (205) 619-2895Exterior door repair in Arab: questions we get asked
My sidelight glass has fogged up. Can that be replaced separately?
Yes. Sidelights and transoms use insulated glass units that can be replaced on their own, without touching the door.
Is my front door secure enough?
The weak point on most entry doors is not the lock, it is the strike. A deadbolt in a strike plate held by short screws into thin jamb material offers much less than people assume. Reinforcing it is inexpensive.
Should I add a storm door to my entry?
It helps with weather and with keeping the door itself out of direct sun and rain, which extends the life of the finish. On a door that already gets full afternoon sun in Arab, it is worth considering.
Why does my front door stick in summer and not in winter?
Seasonal movement in the door and the frame. In Arab's humid months a wood door takes on moisture and grows slightly, and a door that already had tight clearance starts binding.
I can see daylight around my front door. Is that just weatherstrip?
Sometimes, but check whether the gap is even. A consistent gap all the way around is a weatherstrip job. A gap that is wide at one corner and tight at another means the door or frame has moved, and new weatherstrip will not close it.
The bottom of my wooden front door is rotting. Can it be saved?
Often yes, if it is caught early enough. The bottom rail can be repaired and the door refinished. What matters more is fixing the water that caused it, or the repair rots out the same way.
